Sony is announcing the release date of the PlayStation 5 Slim this evening, but the few independent tests released so far are blowing hot and cold on Sony’s new console. If it does not convince, it is still possible to turn to classic consoles and during this Black Friday, they are sure to be on sale, alone or in bundles. This is currently the case at Cdiscount where the PS5 Digital Edition returns to its starting price with this reduction of 50 euros.

The differences with the PlayStation 5 Standard
While Microsoft also released a next-gen console and its digital version with the Xbox Series X and S, Sony did the same, with the difference that the Standard and Digital editions are almost identical. The PlayStation 5 Digital only appears thinner than its big sister thanks to the absence of a disc drive, so it is more elegant. This console is always accompanied by a Sony DualSense controller which allows you to enjoy your games in the most immersive way possible with its haptic feedback.
From a technical point of view, nothing changes. The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is also designed to run natively in 4K 60 FPS while Microsoft’s all-dematerialized console only runs at 1440p 60 FPS. Which is a good point, as the gaming experience does not change compared to the Standard edition. The PS5 Digital also runs with an 825 GB SSD which leaves only 667 GB for game storage, but it also has a second M.2 SSD slot to expand its capacity.
An equally enjoyable gaming experience
The advantage of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is the fully dematerialized game, if you already had PlayStation games before, you just need to repatriate them from your PlayStation Plus account. On the other hand, if you already had physical games, they are no longer useful and you have to go back to the checkout to enjoy them again if the backups were not saved in the PlayStation cloud. This is one of the big heartbreaks of going completely dematerialized, but it at least allows you to clear up your affairs.
Like Microsoft with its Xbox Game Pass, all the richness of the all-dematerialized experience is based on Sony’s online service, PlayStation Plus. At the price of a monthly, quarterly or annual subscription, this service provides access to a catalog of several hundred PS5 and PS4 games and even offers a selection of free games every month. Finally, Sony recently added the Sony Pictures Core application to the PS5, an SVOD platform that works on rental and provides access to a catalog of around 2,000 films. So even though the Blu-ray player is missing on the PS5 Digital, the multimedia experience is still possible.
