There are people who think a real aberration to spend more than a thousand euros on a phone and I understand it. And there are also other types of people (who may or may not be among the above) who find it pointless to invest that amount to purchase a cell phone and then skimp on the case. Here it's harder for me to understand.
More expensive is not always better
I think we will agree that a thousand euro cell phone is objectively better than one of a thousand. Initial premise: it is not fair for either of us to make that comparison. It makes much more sense to compare within the same range, where we can find cheaper products than others that are objectively better.
We add another variable: subjectivity. There is a relationship between investment and return that makes buying a Ferrari to only use it to go shopping absurd. It's not worth giving a Google Pixel 8 Pro to my father, who only uses the phone for calls and drops it every now and then. So be careful because although objectively That thousand euro cell phone was better than that other one for 100, for my father the cheap one is subjectively better.
So we can conclude that no, more expensive is not always better.
I rent the Apple phone, I don't rent the Apple case
Up to this point we have talked about phones and cars, but with all due respect to the manufacturers and the element itself, a mobile phone case does not technically have so much substance. Yes, there is innovation, there is design, there is materials technology, there is a manufacturing process and quality and there are even additions such as technical support.
I've been using the iPhone for about a decade and if I'm still in the Apple ecosystem it's because it fits my needs, despite not being perfect. Is the price between the handicaps? If we talk about phones, no: yes, it seems to me that a thousand euro phone is a great investment and a good bite to my finances, but I spend two years using it intensively for work, entertainment and as a photo and video camera. And also the prices of iPhones are within the market: the high-end from Xiaomi, Samsung or OPPO, to give some examples, also exceed the barrier of one thousand euros.
Separate note: as a personal phone I also have a Google Pixel 6 Pro. A separate issue are mobile phones provided for professional use.
It is nothing new, we have already assumed that this is the price to pay and in my case for the utility that I give it and the return that I get from it when I sell it second-hand, I rent it (by the way, I usually give away the covers) . There will be other people who find other better flagships and others who will be happy with a 300 euro phone. Is It is a blessing that there are mobile phones of all prices for all types of users.
So yes, the iPhone rents me (the iPhone 15 Pro), but what I don't care, they are the official covers: the most basic silicone one costs 59 euros. Without going into the degradation of versions such as the leather one, I think that in general Apple accessories are of quality (and obviously compatible with MagSafe), with good materials, careful finishes, the apple and a price that I am not willing to pay. Life on Android is not much better: the official silicone Google Pixel 8 Pro costs 39 euros.
Let's face it, on some occasions I have taken a lot of chances with covers, like the one from Shein that costs less than a euro and is quite tacky, there are very cheap covers that don't even have the cutouts for the buttons properly. As before, it would not be fair to establish a comparison and of course, it is not a question of buying anything (by the way, I dropped the phone with that case and it withstood the blow without problem), but there is intermediate options that shine in quality-price.
For me the key is in those accessories from trusted brands. In fact, for cases I have a holy trinity made up of Spigen, Belkin and OtterBox (they are not all that there are, but they are all that are there) where you will find silicone cases also with Magsafe that cost less than half, with a careful design to the millimeter and with good SAT.
And here like everything, for tastes, colors: There will be those who love the apple and the colors it offers, for example I like the sobriety of Spigen better (although it has some gems like this one that emulates the most classic Mac).
If you had an unlimited budget, would you buy them? Well, I would surely buy without worrying about the price and to avoid complications, I would go for the official one (although I admit that the Mac one would still make me wince), but that is not my case and I think it is a good idea to buy wisely, that is, seek to maximize my investments where I get the most benefit. I don't need a little apple or a G engraved on the back of the case.
