Jio said that Airtel is deliberately making malicious attempts to malign the affordable tariffs being offered by it to its users. Jio said that instead of complaining, the rival company should offer reasonable tariffs. Jio has said this in a letter to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
Airtel had complained to Jio
This was Reliance Jio’s response to Bharti Airtel’s complaint to the telecom regulator to bring content transmitted through broadband under its ambit and prevent violations. Airtel told TRAI that the broadcaster was violating the downlinking policy by providing broadcast content to unregistered digital distribution platforms. Actually, Airtel’s complaint was being linked to live streaming of free matches of IPL-2023 on Jio TV.
Criticism of Jio
Reliance Jio has now opposed this in a letter to TRAI, saying that the Jio Fiber backup tariff is the best effort by RJIL to harness fiber optics technology to provide best-in-class connectivity service to consumers. , Jio said that there is a malicious attempt to defame the affordable tariffs being offered by it to the users. Instead of complaining, the rival company should be given a reasonable tariff.
Controversy over IPL broadcast
The main reason for the dispute between Jio and Airtel is the free broadcast of Indian Premier League 2023. In fact, Jio Cinema holds the digital rights for IPL matches and Disney Plus Hotstar holds the live streaming rights. However, viewers can watch IPL for free on Jio Cinema. At the same time, a fee has to be paid to watch live matches on Disney Plus Hotstar.
