He returns ! After having embodied the Punisher in season 2 of Daredevil then in its dedicated series (2 seasons) Jon Bernthal will be back for Daredevil Born Again on Disney+. A long-awaited return, the fate of the character being pending since the abandonment of the Marvel / Netflix deal.
It is The Hollywood Reporter who announces the news. Bernthal joins the series, which is set to begin filming this month in New York. In the cast, we will obviously find Chalie Cox in Daredevil as well as Vincent D’Onofrio as Caïd.

It is not yet known if the characters will be recast or simply ousted from the story. Born Again should follow the three already existing seasons (now available on Disney +), but adopt a soft reboot approach, that is to say, start on new bases. The series will consist of 18 episodes, an unusual length for a Marvel Studios series.

At the end of the Marvel/Netflix deal and the repatriation of the series to Disney+, the question of the future of the characters of the Netflix Universe (which evolved on the fringes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe) has long remained unanswered. In 2021, Charlie Cox made his big comeback in the MCU in a scene from the film Spider-Man No Way Home, then in the She-Hulk series in 2022. Vincent D’Onofrio put him back in the Caïd costume (Wilson Fisk) for the final episode of Hawkeye.
Jon Bernthal’s return as Punisher makes sense, especially since the character is one of the most popular in the Marvel stable. The fate of the other heroes of the Netflix Universe, namely Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, is still uncertain. Marvel Studios has no plans to reuse them yet.
Daredevil Born Again is scheduled to air in 2024 on Disney+.
