One of the best decisions The Document Foundation ever made was to part ways with OpenOffice. By doing so, it has been able to create a fully open source office suite developed by and for the community. Today, LibreOffice It is the main alternative to Office, the Microsoft office suite. And every so often it launches new versions with which, little by little, it only improves and closes the gap with its rival.
The developers of this office suite are constantly working to improve it, both by adding new features and tools that may be useful, and by correcting all kinds of errors. The development of new versions of the LibreOffice suite works as follows:
- Major updates (i.e. those with a new number to the left) add new features and functionality.
- Maintenance updates (i.e., those with numbers on the right) focus on fixing bugs and errors to provide users with the most stable suite possible.
Today, we have a new version of the latter. And a few hours ago, the people in charge of The Document Foundation have just launched a new version of the suite, the 24.2.5focused exclusively on correcting errors, bugs and problems.
LibreOffice 24.2.5: Changes and News
This new version of the office suite has focused on correcting all kinds of problems and errors that had been detected and reported by users themselves. In total, this version includes more than 70 corrections spread across both the core of the suite and each of the programs that are part of it.
Some of the bugs that have been fixed in this version are:
- Failures related to file recovery in case of error.
- Problems with autocorrects, which did not work well.
- Writer has fixed issues related to embedded fonts in documents, the character counter, and the speed of opening certain documents, especially fairly large ones.
- Writer, Calc, and other programs have fixed several memory leak bugs on macOS that could cause the program to crash completely.
Of course, compatibility with DOCX documents has also been improved, as, from our point of view, this remains one of the outstanding issues of this program.

If you want to download this new version of LibreOffice, it is now available directly from its website. Just click on this link to download the new version 24.2.5 of the suite and install it on your computer. In addition to this version, if you are looking for more stable options, you can also find version 7.6.7 (before the numbering change), which is the version designed, above all, for companies where the work they do is critical.
Users who already have a previous version installed will be able to update to this new version directly from the main window of the program. However, the OTA update will still take a while to arrive, so we will still have to wait a bit before we can upgrade to the new LibreOffice 24.2.5.
The Document Foundation is already preparing to release the next major update to the suite. Next month, version 24.8 will be available to all users, packed with changes, new features and, of course, bug fixes. And, as always, completely free, for Windows, Linux and macOS, and without subscriptions.
