According to a piece of code, discovered by MacRumors In Apple’s Wallet app, the manufacturer’s Car Keys feature could soon be available on future Lynk & Co vehicles. A new feature that could be a major asset for the Chinese brand.
LYNK & CO X CarKey
If you’re new to Apple’s CarKey, it lets you unlock a vehicle with an NFC-enabled iPhone or Apple Watch by storing a digital car key in Wallet. Opening is done by tapping the device to the NFC reader on a compatible vehicle.
The models Lynk & Co “01” from 2021 to 2024 are already compatible with Apple CarPlay, but do not have NFC technology by default. This standard would therefore soon be integrated by the manufacturer in future models. Lynk & Co’s next car, the Z20, derived from the Volvo EX30 and which will also be the company’s first electric vehicle, could be the one that will inaugurate digital car keys, with a launch planned in several European markets.
Car Keys’ functionality can vary by manufacturer, but they typically unlock, lock, and start the car, just like a physical key. Introduced by Apple in 2022, Car Keys is already supported by manufacturers like BMW, Rivian, Kia, and Hyundai. Apple maintains a full list of compatible vehicles on its dedicated web page.
