macOS Sequoia will not be released in October, it will be much earlier when we have the update available
Macs are typically the last Apple devices to receive their annual update. Even though all operating systems are unveiled at the same time during WWDC in June, macOS is usually the last to be officially releasedHowever, this could change radically this year with macOS Sequoia.
Apparently, the new macOS Sequoia will not be released throughout the month of October as in previous years. New information claims that we could have it much sooner. The update will probably be released along with the rest of Apple’s software in just a few days.
The earliest macOS release in over 10 years
Reviewing the release of the latest versions of macOS, we see that Apple’s new operating system is usually released in late September or during the month of October. This has been the case since 2013, when Apple changed the way it introduced its operating systems, which began arriving at the end of the year instead of in the middle.
If we look back, given that Apple is a company that doesn’t usually change its ways, we can usually get an idea of the company’s plans. And this has been the release date of macOS in recent years:
- OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – July 25, 2012
- OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) – October 22, 2013
- OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) – October 16, 2014
- OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) – September 30, 2015
- macOS 10.12 (Sierra) – September 20, 2016
- macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) – September 25, 2017
- macOS 10.14 (Mojave) – September 24, 2018
- macOS 10.15 (Catalina) – October 7, 2019
- macOS 11.0 (Big Sur) – November 12, 2020
- macOS 12.0 (Monterey) – October 25, 2021
- macOS 13.0 (Ventura) – October 24, 2022
- macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) – September 26, 2023
But this year, this pattern will not continue. According to the information collected by MacRumors, macOS 15.0 Sequoia will be officially released to the public in mid-September. This means that the new Mac operating system is likely to be released at the same time as iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and watchOS 11. Most likely, the Monday, September 16. Although it is something that Apple could confirm in the iPhone 16 keynote that we will be able to follow live in a few hours.
Internal Apple documentation obtained by MacRumors suggests that macOS 15.0 Sequoia will officially be released to the public in mid-September.
Apple is expected to update its Mac lineup to include the M4 chip before the end of the year, perhaps at a new event, but macOS Sequoia doesn’t seem to be waiting for them. So these new Macs are sure to arrive with a fairly stable version of the operating system.
This is certainly good news for all Mac users, who will be able to enjoy the new operating system much sooner than usual. So, if you have a Mac with macOS Sequoia, it is very likely that a new update will be available within just a few days.
