Surely it has happened to you at some point: you look at the top bar of your phone, you see the Wi-Fi icon, but the phone tells you that there is no internet. Or directly, you discover it yourself in the browser, refreshing the feed of your favorite social network or trying to send a message. It happens on the phone, on the tablet and on the computer and can have several root causes, although fortunately they usually have an easy solution. This is how you can fix the problem of having Wi-Fi (on the surface) but no internet.
Note: the premise of this problem starts from the wireless connection through Wi-Fi and not through our data rate, something that for example we do when we are at home. Broadly speaking, and saving the differences, it is something like seeing the wiring in your house and the light bulb, but there is no electricity at home. So, the Wi-Fi is operational and you are connected to the wireless network, but there is no data transfer.
Are you sure the password is correct?
This error is a classic and it also usually occurs when it is the first time we try to connect to a certain network or when we have just changed the password and try to log in, since the fault lies precisely with its credentials: If we write the password wrong, then we will see the Wi-Fi icon but we will not navigate through it, logically. It’s something like trying to put the wrong key in the door of the house.
When this happens, you simply have to forget this Wi-Fi (the option appears as is in the settings of your Android mobile or ‘Bypass this network’ on an iPhone) so that you can start the connection process again and have another opportunity to enter the password correctly.
However, it can also occur when apply certain settings to your Wi-Fi network applied that prevents the connection, in which case it is worth reviewing what we have recently changed.
A router failure
It is quite common that throughout its uninterrupted operation (normally it is always on), the router experiences failures from time to time totally normal as a result of specific technical failures such as an overload or a temporary drop.
The good thing about these failures is that they usually Wi-Fi supply returning to normal sooner rather than later and without needing to do anything. However, if you are an impatient person or the recovery takes a while, you can always restart your router by following the 10-second rule.
If the above does not work and the failure continues to cause problems or the connection establishes and drops repeatedly, there is the option of contact the service provider company to ask for explanations about the failure and its reestablishment. In these cases you can even receive benefits such as a few extra gigabytes for browsing.
Supply incidents
If after verifying that the password is correct, we have not done anything new in the configuration and restarting has not had an effect, then it is time to get in touch. Contact the company that provides us with the service.
Here the casuistry is more varied and can affect you individually, your area or be generalized, passing from line cuts to loss of synchronization between the router and the network cards. It will first be necessary to diagnose the fault (which may require technical support to come to your home) to determine the solution, but it may be a matter of days.
However, sometimes The failure may be that it is not technical and is administrative.like something as simple as there being a problem in the regularization of your invoices.
Device problems
If you detect that you have internet on your smart TV, on your computer, on your tablet… but the only thing that fails is your mobilethen what you have to look for are potential problems with the software (the settings deserve special mention) or the hardware.
Network reset on Android
Our recommendation is to turn the device on and off, keep it updated with the latest version, try other Wi-Fi networks and finally, reset the network settings (to return them to their original factory state and thus re-enter your device’s credentials). Wi-Fi, in case you have applied any settings that limit access. Likewise, it is also a good idea to take a look at your router’s control panel, in case your mobile’s access to the network is blocked.
