Capcom’s beloved fighting game Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes, one of the most emblematic crossovers in the video game industry, will have a new version, in the form of an arcade cabinet, thanks to the retro arcade specialists Arcade1Up.
The arcade cabinet will also include seven other Capcom fighting games based on characters from Marvel Comics.
The cabinet Marvel vs. Arcade1Up’s Capcom 2 will be available for pre-order starting September 8 at Evo 2022, the company announced Friday, and is expected to ship sometime this fall.
The machine features a 17-inch monitor and Wi-Fi connectivity for online multiplayer.
In addition to MvC 2, the cabinet will also include the Marvel vs. Original Capcom (previously released as part of Arcade1Up’s line of retro cabinets), Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men Children of the Atom, X-Men Mutant Apocalypse, and Marvel Super Heroes in War of the Gems.
Arcade1Up didn’t specify a price, but the company’s previous two-player fighting game cabinets typically went for $449.99.
The Legacy of Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was originally released in arcades in 2000 and was later ported to the Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, and the original Xbox. Featuring a staggering 56 characters drawn from Marvel Comics and Capcom lore, the game was a staple of the fighting game scene and was played competitively in the annual Evo Championship Series until 2009. Capcom released a sequel called Fate of the Two World in 2011.
