Max is already among usyes It is between us. The replacement of HBO Max is already a reality and we have seen how they have solved, for example, the problem with the application for Fire TV, a platform on which it is already available. No more trying “strange things.”
And by the way, I have tried installing the application on my Smart TV to see how it works and notice the differences compared to HBO Max. But at this point the question arises: what happens if you were already enjoying an HBO Max subscription with the famous 50% discount for life? Here we tell you how everything will turn out.
Max plans and pricing
And one of the new things that Max introduces is the presence of pricing plans. Until now it was the only platform that offered a single type of subscription and with the arrival of Max two modalities arrive. The plans are these:
- Standard Plan: Maximum FullHD resolution, stereo sound, and up to 30 downloads for offline consumption. Viewing on up to 2 devices at the same time. It will have a price of 9.99 euros per month.
- Premium Plan: Maximum resolution in 4K UHD, Dolby Atmos sound, and up to 100 downloads for online consumption. Viewing on up to 4 devices at the same time. It will have a price of 13.99 euros per month.
- Sports complement: We know that if you pay a little more for the add-on, you will get 4K quality and Dolby Atmos sound. Viewing on up to 2 devices at the same time. You can add it to any base plan. It will have a price of 5 euros per month.
Then the doubt arises. If you are enjoying the 50% subscription discount, What happens now? Did I have a reduction in resolution when I changed the platform to the Standard plan or will I have the Premium plan?
At the outset I tell you that you won’t notice any change (or almost). If you already had HBO Max contracted with the 50% discount, you will continue to have access to 4K resolution when playing content. You will only lose these benefits if you change your subscription and therefore. In fact, they already announced it in the email they sent:
“As an HBO Max subscriber, you will continue to enjoy the current features and functionality of your plan at your current price, including your forever 50% discount on the then-current monthly price (currently €9.99/month), as long as when you keep your subscription active and comply with the terms and Conditions of the promotion. We will let you know in advance if we need to make changes to your plan in the future.”
In fact, when you install the Max application and log in, you will be able to check within your profile (or one of them) in the section “Subscription” How does it appear that you have active Standard plan but with the “old” last name.
This means that you keep 50% discount but also the features that you had before and among them the support for 4K. However, one thing you will lose is viewing capacity: where before you had three simultaneous views, you now have two.
This “Old Standard” plan is therefore a different plan from Standard for new users, since it maintains (almost all) the features that you had contracted before such as 4K or Dolby Atmos. The only way to lose the discount is to change your subscription or for Max to decide that this changes, something that we already suspect will end up happening sooner rather than later.
