Mark Zuckerberg wants a more powerful Meta Quest Pro that can compete with the Apple Vision Pro.
The Apple Vision Pro have changed the landscape of augmented reality and mixed reality glasses and Meta, owner of Oculus, has decided to react. Until just a few months ago, Meta was the most recognized brand in this market with its Meta Questbut the presentation of Apple Vision Pro has completely eclipsed them.
As reported in UploadVR, Zuckerberg seems to have some ambitious plans to compete with the Apple Vision Pro and that’s why Meta has been working with LG to build new virtual reality glasses that can compete with Apple’s seen.
Quest Pro, Meta’s answer to the Apple Vision Pro
Meta and LG have teamed up to build future versions of the Quest Pro headset. At first, it was believed that Meta was only in talks with LG Display, LG’s subsidiary display provider. However, the new information suggests that it is a “much broader partnership” in which other LG subsidiaries will also participate.
Mark Zuckerberg wants to compete face to face with Apps Vision Pro
LG Electronics would be responsible for assembling the new headphones, while LG Energy and LG Innotek would supply batteries and other components. Of course, the Micro OLED screens would be supplied by LG Display. This means that LG would have a greater influence on the way the device is made and its final designby manufacturing many of the key components.
Some industry sources claim that the new Quest Pro from Meta and LG is expected to launch in 2025 with a price tag of around $2,000. It must be taken into account that the Current Meta Quest Pro costs $999, so it seems that the device will have more powerful hardware to compete with Apple Vision Pro. It is also reported that Meta will soon launch its more affordable Meta Quest 3 for $499. Apple is also considering an affordable version of the Vision Pro.
The Apple Vision Pro is unrivaled in today’s market. Although not all of its components are known, we know that Apple glasses keep a lot of technology inside. Two Micro OLED screens with a resolution greater than 4K for each eye, 12 cameras, 5 sensors, 6 microphones, the M2 chip and the new R1 chip that renders the images captured by the cameras in real time.
For comparison, the current Meta Quest Pro has a 2K LCD screen for each eye, five cameras, uses physical controls for better precision, and is powered by the Snapdragon XR2 chip. They are very far, technologically speaking, from the option of Apple. So it is normal that they are already working on a better solution to be able to compete.
