It seems that the new Meta Quest 3 is just around the corner. At the moment it is time to do a little review of everything that is known —according to leaks— of the new Meta hardware.
In a market where virtual reality is going through a period of low demand, great doors are definitely opening up to new possibilities and Meta knows this. That is why the company’s next release could be Meta Quest 3.
The reality is that Meta Quest 2 is already several years old and although there have been releases in between, it seems that Quest 3 could be just what VR needs – although Apple also wants to get in the game with its Reality Pro glasses.
On the other hand, one of Meta’s biggest VR rivals, Sony, released its PS VR 2, back in February 2023, so it’s time for them to get their act together.
It is expected that this novelty of Meta will offer more power and better features, with a focus on integrating augmented reality to create a mixed reality headset relatively affordable.

Release date
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that Meta Quest 3 will be released this year. Specifically, she said: “This year we will launch our next-generation consumer headset, which will also feature Meta Reality, and I look forward to this technology establishing itself as the foundation for all headsets in the future, and eventually, of course, augmented reality glasses as well.”.
It’s important to note that there’s still nothing official from Meta, but regardless, there’s great optimism that Quest 3 is already on track for a late 2023 release.

Market release price
As for the price of the Quest 3, according to the leaks, it is expected to be around $400 or more.
As mentioned above, Meta has had to scale back on the Quest Pro and Quest 2, and even Sony is having trouble justifying its PS VR 2’s $549 price tag despite being technically powerful. Meta seems to be aware of this problem and it will have to prove that all this power and these new features are worth it.
At a conference in April, the CEO of Meta said that the device will be released to a “Accesible price”.
Meta Quest 3 Rumored Specs
The great point to highlight here is the possibility that it is a mixed reality device. According to leaks, Meta plans to do this with a combination of a 4-camera array and a depth sensor to enable MR elements.
Meta is likely to use uOLED displays, but there have also been rumors suggesting OLED or mini LED. Are they would also have a 120Hz refresh rate, something the Quest 2 got in 2021.
According to Brad Lynch, a virtual reality analyst, the expected resolution for Quest 3 is 4,128 x 2,208 pixels or 2,064 x 2,208 pixels. This represents a 30% improvement with respect to the 1,920 x 1,832 pixels of Meta Quest 2. Rumors also suggest that there could be a separate model with 512 GB of SSD and 12 GB of RAM.
With all this and already judging the success of Meta Quest 2, perhaps a big decision would be to go for an upgrade to Quest 3. However, it seems that it is trying to go further by transitioning to mixed reality and improving performance. The future plans of the metaverse seem to be in the hands of this new device.
