Let us tell you that this problem may increase in the coming years and the company may have to face challenges from the regulators.
What is Meta’s plan?
Now it looks like Meta has found a way to comply with all the laws while protecting the privacy of its users. According to a media report, Meta is considering to launch paid version of Instagram and Facebook in Europe. The reason behind this move is very clear that users in Europe should not be shown any ads. At the moment, Meta has not given any information about the launch date and price of the paid versions of Facebook and Instagram.
Trouble between Europe and Meta
In December 2022, the European Commission (EC) launched an antitrust investigation against Meta for practices relating to its online classified advertising business.
The EC conducted the investigation to determine whether Meta abused its market power by linking its Facebook Marketplace service to its social network Facebook.
Meta also threatened to leave the European Union entirely if it was not able to transfer European users’ data to the United States.
He will do this because the EU-US Privacy Shield was invalidated by the European Court of Justice in July 2020. Explain that it is an agreement, which allows the transfer of data between two regions.
