In March we told you that Microsoft would be working on a new family plan for Xbox GamePass, which has now begun to materialize. Those from Redmond announced in the last few hours that members of the Xbox Insider program can now try an option that allows sharing a subscription with multiple people. The counter? It is available only in select territories.
As published on the official Xbox blog, this possibility is initially limited to Colombia and Ireland. At the moment, not many details have been released regarding this proposal, although the little that is known begins to show which way it would go.
In principle, users will be able to add a maximum of four players to their subscription. To start testing this new proposal, those interested must purchase a plan called Xbox Game Pass – Insider Preview from the Microsoft Store. Other people added to the subscription group do not have to be Xbox Insiders, but they do need to be within the same country as the member.
For now, the “family plan” does not have a defined official name. But what Microsoft is making clear is that it will be focused on those who are subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate:
Starting today in Colombia and Ireland, Xbox Insiders can start previewing a plan that allows multiple people to share the benefits of Game Pass Ultimate. This makes it even easier to play the best Game Pass games with friends and family across console, PC, and cloud by letting you add up to four people to your subscription, all with their own unique access to games, content, and content. the benefits of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
The Xbox Game Pass family plan is taking shape
Without a doubt, Microsoft’s announcement about the Game Pass shared subscription is of the most anticipated of the last time. It is speculated that the corporation would launch it definitively this year, although everything would depend on how long the Xbox Insiders test and its international expansion extend. Since we are already in August, a massive launch before the end of the year seems unlikely. But, of course, the last word on this has not yet been said.
No specific mention has yet been made of the possible price of the Xbox Game Pass family plan. Anyway, it has been explained that those who sign up to participate in this Insider Preview will see that the remaining time of their existing membership will be converted to the new plan, “based on monetary value of previous membership”. According to Microsoft, a full month of Ultimate will turn into 18 days of subscription to the new shared plan.
It is also not known how long this test will be carried out in Colombia and Ireland. It has only been specified that the availability of the shared plan is limited and the subscription will be open “while the offer is available”.
This year, Microsoft has bet very heavily on its platform under subscription. In June, it announced that users will be able to play any Xbox game they have purchased from the cloud, even if it is in the Game Pass catalog. In addition, it has expanded the presence of Xbox Cloud Gaming to more countries, including Argentina.
