It is essential that we have an antivirus installed on our computer, to avoid unpleasantness, and if we do not want to spend money, we can always use the free solution that Microsoft offers us in each of its systems, including Windows 10 and Windows 11.
And it is that for a long time, Microsoft Defender has become a free and very reliable solution for all users who use operating systems such as Windows 10 or Windows 11.
We already have the latest results from AV-TEST, which has tested the 18 packages of anti virus for Windows at the moment, and has qualified them, according to parameters such as protection, performance and usability.
To reach the conclusion, the organization tested each of the antivirus packages against around 12,000 malware samples mixed in 1.5 million files to see how they fared.
In the categories of protection, performance and usability, a maximum score of 6 points was given, and Microsoft Defender it scored perfect in the protection and usability categories, but was the worst of the 18 in performance.
The problem with the performance of Microsoft Defender in Windows
While they don’t explain exactly what performance issue Microsoft Defender had, it ranks lowest of all on that parameter, losing quite a bit of score in the end.
“The highest system load in the test was generated by Windows Defender Antivirus for consumers. As the system load is considerably higher than the other products, Defender lost a whole point, thus finishing on 5 out of 6 points”, wrote AV-TEST.
In this way, if you do not want to spend money, you can perfectly use the free antivirus from Microsoft that comes with Windows 10 and Windows 11, but you should be aware that if you do not mind spending some money, you will find some paid antivirus that is as good as Microsoft’s, but offering better performance.
