It is nothing new to say that Google Chrome is the most used web browser in the world. Just as it is nothing new to say that this browser is not going through its best moment due to the latest decisions that Google is making. One of the latest, for example, is the application of the Manifest v3which will cause hundreds of extensions to stop working. Even so, this browser remains the leader, although its rivals are getting closer.
PC Browser Ranking
Of course, the first place is occupied by Google Chromethe browser of the Internet search giant, which has a 64.72% market share. In addition, although it has slowed its growth, in the last period it has grown a little with 0.03% of users. The curious thing comes in second place, Microsoft Edgethe revamped web browser with which the Windows giant wants to take over the market.
Edge is based on Chromium, but it changes many things that users of Google’s browser don’t like, such as data collection by Google, as well as adding a lot of functions and features that are not available in Google’s browser. Thanks to this (since it comes installed by default on Windows, let’s not kid ourselves), this browser has a market share of 13.74%with a considerable increase of 0.39% compared to the previous measure.
Below these two undisputed winners we find Safari, Apple’s browser that is exclusive to macOS and has a 9.1% market share, Firefox, the private OpenSource browser par excellence that is used by 6.64% of total users, and in last place, and with a drop of 0.45% is Opera.
These data show a clear picture: users do not want to try new things, no matter how many free VPNs are promised. They want a traditional browser, fast, clear and easy to use. But, at the same time, they are tired of Google taking advantage of its dominant position in the market to do and undo as it pleases.
We are likely to see an even more marked change in trend in the coming months.
Most used browsers on mobile
If we look at mobile browsers, the picture is quite different. Of course, Google Chrome remains the leader Safari is the undisputed leader in this sector, with a market share greater than that of PC, specifically with 66.45% of the total. But, in second place is Safari, Apple’s browser that only works on iOS, which this time has a market share of 23.21%. This means that, between Chrome and Safari, on mobile we have almost covered 90% of the total market share.
The rest of the browsers have a practically negligible presence on these devices. The only one that is saved is Samsung’s browser, with just over 4%. But neither Firefox, nor Edge nor any other browser can overshadow the two undisputed leaders.
