Microsoft has just announced a big update for Windows Insiders. A new channel! Its about canary channelwhich will allow us to test with a weekly cadence the news that could come to Windows in the medium and long term (that is, what until now has been the Dev Channel).
Canal Canary launches with Windows 12 on the horizon
The new canary channel it will be the ideal place to be the first to test platform changes that require a long testing time before being released to the public. Here issues such as major changes to the Windows kernel, new APIS, etc. would enter. As happened in the already old Dev Channel, these changes could often never see the light of day.
Builds released on the Canary Channel will have higher numbering than Dev, Beta, and Release Preview builds (starting with the 25000 series). This implies that everyone currently on the Dev Channel will automatically be moved to Canary.
He Dev Channel it will now become a more stable place, ideal for enthusiasts who want to test out new features that are set to arrive relatively soon in Windows 11. For now, these will remain in the 23000 series builds.
The Beta Channels and Release Preview they will continue to have the same concept, being places to slightly anticipate what is coming to Windows 11. These are the ideal channels for those who are risk averse and value the stability of the operating system (for example, because they will use it in their regular equipment).
And you, what do you think of these changes? We believe that we will soon begin to see very interesting news on the Canal Canary, many of them being a first look at what awaits us in 2024 with Windows 12. Stay tuned!
