Microsoft is testing new features for Windows 11 Snipping Tool and wants to automatically save your work session in Notepad.
The Snipping Tool and Notepad in Windows 11 are about to undergo significant changes. In the latest Insider build of its operating system, Microsoft is indeed testing several new features that should significantly improve the use of these two tools.
A more efficient screenshot tool
For starters, Windows 11’s Snipping Tool will now take advantage of a combo snipping bar that’s supposed to make it easier to transition between a still image screenshot and a video screenshot without having to open the application completely. You can therefore continue to use the Print key. Keyboard screen of your PC, or use the shortcut Windows + Shift + S to open the usual capture bar with the different capture modes.
But you can also use the new shortcut Windows + Shift + R to directly access the screenshot bar dedicated to video recording. Microsoft also indicates that its video screen capture module will also evolve. It will indeed integrate new options for audio. You can thus choose to directly record the sound captured by the microphone built into your PC, or select another audio capture device configured on your machine. A more than welcome improvement since it will allow you, for example, to record a comment aloud at the same time as you make a screen recording on video.

Notepad will save your work automatically
The other novelty on which Microsoft is working concerns Windows Notepad. Utility update 11.2307.22.0 should ensure that you never lose a work in progress again as it introduces an auto-save feature. In concrete terms, Windows 11 Notepad will automatically save your work session as you go. This therefore means that you will be able to close Notepad without losing the various tabs in progress. No more risk of losing your work or forgetting to save your changes. Notepad will take care of this for you and restore all tabs from your previous work session the next time you open it.

However, if this new behavior of Notepad, enabled by default from version 11.2307.22.0, does not suit you, all is not lost. Microsoft specifies that you can, if you wish, deactivate this automatic backup from the application settings. You will restart each work session on a completely blank Notepad.
