Some of the technologies that allow you to create inexpensive, Linux-based computers are made possible by the Raspberry Pi.
And this has allowed the creation of a mini computer with the Linux operating system that will allow you to play DOOM at a cost of just $15 dollars.
Linux Mini PC Built by a Fan for Fans
Developer Brian Benchoff created a “minimum viable computer” which is a mini PC running Linux and implementing very inexpensive components.
If you want to get hold of this Mini PC and build it yourself, you can do so by buying the parts online following Benchoff’s instructions.
This invention was achieved thanks to the experimentation that Raspberry boards allow, since they allow practically anything to be done.
Amazing Basic Linux Mini PC
The computer adds a full 48-key keyboard, which is built with a silicone membrane, which is divided in two by the screen.
In this way, its screen is 2.3 inches and allows a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels helped by Linux, having a resemblance to the Nokia N-Gage in design.
Its processor has an Allwinner F1C100s CPU, which integrates an ARM9 core, which has a basic speed of 533 MHz.
Built to perform basic tasks AND PLAY
Its processor also integrates 32MB of RAM, which adds four times the minimum necessary for Linux to run without a problem.
The Mini Pc with Linux also adds ports for an SD card reader, a USB A, a USB C that works exclusively to charge the equipment.
The Mini PC is portable, but requires two AAA rechargeable batteries, which will give you about five hours of power without plugging it in.
Economic price… but only wholesale
According to its developer in a GitHub publication, you will be able to find the list of all the necessary parts and assemble your Linux Mini PC.
But this has a trick, since for you to have an estimated cost of $14.16 dollars, you would have to buy about 1000 products.
This could be the start of your business, and can be offered as “The smallest Linux computer that runs DOOM”.
Its estimated price, without buying wholesale, would be $4,500 pesos, although you will have to get some second-hand parts, otherwise its cost would be approximately $6,000 pesos.
