As we already told you once MIUI 13 was launched, Xiaomi introduced in its customization layer the option of being able to expand the RAM of our phones thanks to the use of its internal memory. Thanks to that, RAM management is much more efficient than in previous versionsand it is something that many users have appreciated.
However, Until now we could simply select in the MIUI settings if we wanted to use this option or not, but we couldn’t select how much memory we wanted to use for this task. But this is something that has changed in MIUI 14, and we are going to show you so that you know how you can configure it to your liking.
How to expand the RAM of a Xiaomi phone thanks to MIUI 14
Something to keep in mind is that This adjustment will use the available internal memory of our Xiaomi mobile therefore, in the event that you have little available memory, you may not be able to select the maximum possible capacity. In addition, the speed of this memory is also important for its correct performance, so the faster it is, the more effective it will be when managing this element.
Of course, something important to mention is that This adjustment will not radically change the performance of our smartphone since it is a virtual memory, so it does not act in the same way as a physical memory, which is much more effective when it comes to managing the tasks that we have running in the background.
Previously, MIUI 13 offered the possibility to activate this option on some phones and, as a general rule, We were only allowed to upgrade up to 3 GB of memory, so it was something we couldn’t select. This has changed with MIUI 14, and now we are given the possibility to choose between 2, 3 or 5 GB of expansion depending on our needs.
In our case, by selecting the 5GB option we have been able to expand the RAM memory of our POCO F4 up to 11 GB, a quite important figure and that It may be higher if you use phones with 8 or 12 GB of internal RAM.
That said, we leave you below the way to adjust this parameter in detail, which You will be able to access it in the following way:

- Access the settings of your Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phone with MIUI 14
- Scroll down and enter the “Additional settings” option
- Once inside, if our terminal allows us to, click on the “Memory extension” section
- Now simply choose the amount of memory you want to expand and then reboot your device for the changes to take effect.
