It’s been a few years since the release of the Modern Warfare reboot. The game arrived in 2019 with an outstanding technical and playable proposal, and with the new golden goose under its arm: Warzone. Along the way, and so far, two more Call of Duty that have certainly been far from representing what MW2019 has meant for the revitalization of the franchise. Modern Warfare 2 repeats the scheme.
Cold War Y Vanguard They have not been able to raise the franchise to the same level as the 2019 game, so the arrival of its direct sequel was the best hope of the players who were captivated by the new team of Task Force 141. And it has not disappointed. Perhaps not at the same level as the previous one in some of his iconic missions, but Modern Warfare 2 is an outstanding title in its campaign. Yes, because at the moment and until October 28, his campaign is the only thing we have been able to play. And it has not disappointed us.
Modern Warfare 2 continues with the adventures of the team that closed the epilogue of the previous game. But not his story. Note that the launch of Warzone put its own narrative on the tableand that, therefore, the game itself closed the story of Al Qatala. Now, the new installment offers us a new story that the only thing it has in common with the previous one is its protagonists. And not all.
It returns the entire Task Force 141, including Ghost and Soap, and adds new characters such as Valeria and Alejandro Vargas, briefly recovers Fara, and gives a new role to Lawsell, who in his Spanish version of Spain leaves behind the horrible dubbing from the previous game and broke all immersion in the game every time it appeared. And the general dubbing is not outstanding either, and in fact our recommendation is to play it in the original version (if the title of your region allows it).
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Modern Warfare 2’s campaign is a breath of fresh air for the franchise. Although it is a step behind the previous game, it offers some missions that are very different from what we were used to in a Call of Duty, all with outstanding graphics and sound with a staging that is far from the competition.
In focus, this time it is very different. So much so that it’s dividing the community, you either love it, or you hate it. More tactical, more leisurely and less popcorn box. Something more adult. That is the definition of the Modern Warfare 2 campaign. And it suits him very well. Maybe it doesn’t have as many moments as clean-house either all camouflaged, but if it raises new things that are a breath of fresh air. The mission Alone, in which we are unarmed and we have to craft to make weapons and equipmentIt is, without a doubt, one of the best things about the game. Also the minigame of the cameras in prison breakof which we do not want to reveal anything to us so as not to spoil its mechanics.
Beware that there are also homage missions such as the aforementioned All Camouflaged, and that it is precisely located in Spain. In addition, part of the game also takes place in the fictional Mexican city of Las Almas, with a good cast of natural actors from there and an outstanding performance.
In general, throughout its 17 missions, the game poses different variations in its gameplay that make it especially dynamic. The changes are not only in the structure and development of the missions, but also the difficulty. Modern Warfare 2 takes it up a notch, and on any difficulty it’s a bit more demanding than other games, and let’s not talk about Realism or Veteran anymore, that those who dare will have an enormous challenge. And yes, they haven’t forgotten the already classic mission in which you are an artillery operator of an AC-130.
New mechanics that are a breath of fresh air in Call of Duty
The reason is that Modern Warfare 2 introduces in the campaign some enemies with armor similar to that of war zone. And they are tough, pretty tough. In some missions they are able to kill you with one touch. That is a problem, since sometimes it is artificial, as if the enemies were able to see you through the wall or hit you in the head hundreds of meters with a shotgun. It is the only one, but that can be taken out in the campaign, perhaps a little far from what a classic Call of Duty player is getting used to.
Honorable mention goes to the graphic and sound apparatus. The artistic section is impressive throughout the entire game. I’m sure many have seen the Amsterdam mission and the hyper-realistic graphics. We are sorry to disappoint you, but not all of the game looks like this, although in its entirety it is outstanding.
An outstanding graphic section
The lighting and the quality of the textures are great, and there are few moments in which the game lowers the level. Yes it is true that it remains a bit strange to play at 120fps and watch the cinematics at 30, but in general it is the only bad thing that can be said about Modern Warfare II. The sound, on the other hand, like the previous game, is magnificent. From the sound of weapons to the environment, Inifity Ward’s affection is noticeable in this section, and listening to it through 3D Audio or Dolby 5.1 leaves you speechless at times.
In general, and waiting to play multiplayer long and hard, and while DMZ and Warzone arrives, we have loved the campaign. Maybe not at the level of the first game, but still one of the best that a Call of Duty has included in the last decade. Totally unmissable.
The campaign, on its base difficulty, can be completed in about 6-7 hours, so if you don’t plan to play the multi, you may have to wait considering the price of the game. But if you are only campaigning, and you go out and buy the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will not disappoint you at any time. [9]
