Yesterday we informed you about a strange move by Sony in Japan, a price increase of the PS5 from 90 euros at the exchange rate motivated, according to experts, by the delicate economic situation in the country. However, it is possible that it is a commercial move related to the upcoming launch of the PS5 Pro.
PS5 Pro storage space
The latest news related to the Pro version of the PS5 comes, once again, from the podcast Broken Silicon from the channel Moore’s Law Is Deada podcast that seems to have become an unofficial mouthpiece for Sony through the video game developers who have in their possession a development kit and a few months ago, there was a major leak that Sony was not happy about and opened an investigation into the matter, suggesting that all the leaked information was true.
The host of this podcast claims that the PS5 Pro development kit that Sony has distributed among video game studios includes 2TB SSD storagenews that users of this console will undoubtedly appreciate as it will allow them to have a greater number of games installed without having to replace the storage unit or resort to an external hard drive with a slower reading speed.
But of course, offering a greater storage capacity is associated, whether we like it or not, with an increase in price. The price of storage units is not exactly cheap, and we have to add that so far this year, their price has increased considerably. If we take a look at the price of storage units, we can see that the price of storage units is not exactly cheap. storage units 2TB PCIe, we see how its price is double that of 1TB, about 60 euros difference that, obviously, Sony will not be willing to assume.
Other PS5-related information that has also been revealed in this episode states that the PS5 Pro development kit uses the same power connector as the original model, so the energy consumption will be the same and with a larger SoC the system should be quieter and run at lower temperatures.
Will it be much more expensive?
If we take into account that, if this news is confirmed, it will offer twice as much storage space as the current PS5, it will obviously be more expensive. We cannot forget Japan’s economic problems with its currency, a problem that affected the main stock exchanges around the world a few weeks ago. If, in addition, we add all the improvements that it will include (larger GPU to offer 45% more performance, real-time ray tracing architecture, custom architecture that uses AI to improve resolution among others) it is not difficult to come to the conclusion that yes, it will be more expensive than the current generation. But how much?
Some media outlets are suggesting that the PS5 Pro could be the most expensive PlayStation that Sony launches on the market and that it could cost around 700 euros at the exchange rate, thus becoming the most expensive console that Sony has ever launched on the market.
When will it hit the market?
If the rumours are true, Sony has three months left to unveil and launch the PS5 Pro, a launch that will probably take place in November to kick off the Christmas sales. However, it is also possible that Sony could delay its launch until 2025, as stated a few months ago by well-known leaker Tom Henderson.
