Motorola is reportedly working on a rollable smartphone

Lenovo continues its search for very high-end devices under the Motorola brand. The firm would be at work on a rollable smartphone like the Oppo X 2021.

Even more exciting than the foldable smartphone, Oppo showed us that there was the rollable smartphone. We had the opportunity to take control of the Oppo X 2021, the first of its kind, and we came away amazed by the device. As the idea suggests, this time it’s about always using the same screen that you roll up or down depending on whether you want to be in smartphone or tablet mode.

Oppo is obviously not the only one interested in this new market: Motorola would also be working on a device of this type. Code name: Felix.

Miniaturize the smartphone

Except that Motorola does not want to follow the same strategy as Oppo. The American brand bought by the Chinese Lenovo in 2014, once again wants to exploit technology to try to shrink the smartphone. This is already what the brand offers with the Motorola Razr range of foldables that allows you to create a flip smartphone.

Here, Motorola would therefore like to roll up the screen vertically to shrink or enlarge the device in the hand as needed. According to Evan Blass, always very well informed about the brand, the Felix project is still in its infancy. He thus specifies that the smartphone software, based on Android 12, was tested on a modified Motorola Edge 30 Pro, because the hardware base of Felix was not yet ready.

The Motorola Felix should therefore not see the light of day before 2023, or 2024. If the project follows its course until marketing.
