It is not clear if this is just an off-the-cuff comment during the businessman’s meeting with the Israeli Netanyahu or a concrete plan, but it is clear that Elon Musk must find a way to maintain xformerly known as Twitterafloat. Is the social network going to be paid?

Despite being one of the richest men in the world, it seems that the current CEO of Twitter (which is hard for us to call X, really…) cannot find a sustainable solution to finance his microblogging platform. Since Musk acquired Twitter, now X, in October 2022, there have been many changes to the social network. He fired much of the moderation department, replaced the press office with a program that automatically sends emojis, and encouraged transphobic groups in the name of free speech.

Now we find armies of robots dominating X with anti-Semitic and violent posts and scaring away advertisers and therefore money. This is why Musk is now thinking about charge a subscription to access the platform.

Will X be paid?

Musk He revealed that this idea is already going through his head in an online conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, yesterday. Musk did not say the exact amount that will be paid and when this will begin, but he hinted that when X becomes a payment platform, it will only cost ‘a few dollars’. In response to Netanyahu’s concern that most opinions expressed in X They are mostly from an ‘army of bots’, Musk said:

This is actually a very difficult problem to address. And it’s probably really the most important reason why we’re moving to demand a small monthly payment for he use of x.It’s the only way I can think of to fight vast armies of bots. But if someone has to pay, you know, a few dollars or something, a smaller amount, the effective cost of bots compared to today is very high. And then you also have to get a new payment method every time you have a new bot. So this could cause many of the current robots to disappear from the social network.

Many here might think that this is an idea thrown into the air that will never be real, but those of us who until recently used tweetdeckthe best official client of the social network, we have already seen how This tool has become paid. Therefore, we would not be surprised at all, but nothing, if Musk’s plans come true sooner rather than later. It has yet to be confirmed and it is to be imagined that this will not happen yet this year, but if you are one of those who spend the day hooked on your cell phone reading and writing tweets, prepare your pocket, because the crazy things that Musk usually thinks about, when finally come true.
