Months ago I told you about my experience to expand the storage capacity of a Chromecast with Google TV at home and without spending money and thus end the space limitation and be able to install more applications. And now I am going to repeat a similar process but with an Amazon Fire TV.
Is about gain storage space and put an end to the limitation that many times can cause problems when installing applications or simply downloading content that we find when we use the included browser.
Without spending money
and for the process I have used some very similar elements again to those that I already used with the Chromecast with Google TV. I have used a USB memory that no longer worked for me together with a connector with two sockets that I had at home and to which I connect the USB memory. It’s about not having to buy anything.
I have connected the power to the electrical current of the Fire TV to the HUB, a hub to which before plugging I have connected the flash drive or memory card (I like the card better because it is better integrated).
The normal thing is that when going to use an external memory it does not recognize it and the Fire TV asks to format it. You just have to say yes on the different screens that come out.
For the tests I have used a USB memory that was formatted with the FAT32 systemalthough it also works with the NTFS file system.
in the last you must wait a few seconds (time varies depending on memory storage capacity).
When finished, if you enter the Fire TV settings, click on “About” and then in “Storage”you will see how the USB memory you just installed appears already reflected.
You will be able to see both the capacity that you have free of the total internal memory from the Fire TV, such as the capacity of the external storage you just installed, in this case 128 GB.
All this being said, I’ve used a file explorer so I can move freely through the device’s memory. I have used X-Plore File Managerwe can choose any of those that are available in the Amazon App Store.
With the app already installed on the Fire TV, I’ve opened X-Plore File Manager and I have accessed the folder “Shared internal storage” that appears on the left side of the screen (whether it appears on the left or right is something you can change at any time within the application settings). Within the same left column you must open the “Application Manager”.
Once you have entered “Application Manager”you must open the folder downloadall this in the same left column in this case.
Now we move to the right column and look for the section “Application Manager” and inside this the folder “Installed”.
If at first it does not appear, you must go to the end of the list and click on “Show”cone with the toothed wheel, and among all the options mark “Application Manager” to make it appear visible.
once appears “Installed”, we click to enter the folder. Here it is about selecting the applications that we want to move to the USB memory and in this way leave free space in the main memory of the device.
For the test, I have used the application “AnExplorer”which is the one that I have moved from the internal memory to the USB memory. The process is the same with any installed app.
From here you just have to click on the button “OKAY” the controller for a long time until a drop-down menu appears on the screen in which you must select “Move”.
You will see the destination path of the application and you must accept the process leaving the option “Delete source files”, in order to free up space in the memory of the Fire TV.
The system will ask you if you want to uninstall the application from the original memory and after accepting.
Now you need to go back to the folder “Download”, again in the left column, where you will find the APK file of the application that we are moving. We will stand on it, we will press “okay» and we will start the installation.
The process is about to end, it’s time to check that everything is correct. To do this, you just have to exit the file explorer and return to the menu “Setting” Fire TV and look for the section “Manage installed apps” which is inside the path “My Fire TV” and “USB drive”. In that section you must mark see only the applications installed on the USB.
All the applications that you have moved to the external memory you will be able to distinguish them because they have a mark behind them in the shape of what looks like a pencil indicating that they are stored in USB storage.
