In recent years, Xiaomi has brought several smartwatches based on the MIUI for Watch operating system to the market, while in China the only model with Wear OS, the Google operating system for wearables, it was the original Mi Watch. Unfortunately, this is a smartphone that did not arrive in Spain with this software.
But it seems that things could change soon, according to a new leak that has just appeared on the Net. If we are to listen to a well-informed source about Xiaomi’s internal movements, it is quite likely that the Chinese company is interested in embracing the Google Play ecosystem firmly, and not just launching specific models in one region.
Everything seems to indicate that the firm could launch a Xiaomi Watch completely based on Wear OS 3. At the moment it is not clear if this will be an experiment that will be launched in parallel with the rest of the devices based on MIUI for Watch or if it will replace them completely. Instead, what is known is that the company should use the same Xiaomi Watch branding for its Wear OS-based smartwatch as well, perhaps differentiating it by using a different letter.
Advantages of Wear OS for Xiaomi watches
It is quite likely that the device is already in development, which means that, in all probability, it would see the light of day this year. However, there are no more leaks regarding its hardware specifications or a specific launch date, both in China and in the international market.
Regarding the advantages of using one operating system or another, it is quite clear that Wear OS and MIUI forWatch They allow us to create very different devices, capable of recognizing our orders and aimed at users of different types. In fact, watches that work with Wear OS, such as Google smartwatch or Galaxy Watchthey are usually much more expensive than Xiaomi watches that work with their special version of MIUI for devices of this type.
This is because the watches with MIUI for Watch offer a more limited range of functions than what we can find in smartwatches that work with Wear OS, an operating system that also allows you to use Google apps and do things as practical as answer WhatsApp messages from the wrist. However, current Xiaomi models make up for this fact with autonomy that is unmatched by devices equipped with a more complex operating system.
With all these peculiarities in mind, it is likely that watch that Xiaomi launches in stores with Wear OS 3 is included in the most premium segment of smart watches.
At the moment, it is not known what the official Xiaomi plans will be regarding this new range of watches. It may be that it chooses to follow the aforementioned path and launch a new line of devices based on this software or that it directly replaces the models that work with MIUI for Watch. We hope to know the final decision sooner rather than later.
