It’s been over three weeks since that deadline Netflix gave us to set a primary location. However, from that moment we were still able to access the platform as normal. After the announcement of the limitation of shared accounts, there are many who have already positioned themselves, either by canceling the service, adding an extra profile, or doing nothing. Unfortunately, this last group’s luck is starting to run out, and it is that Netflix has already started sending blocking messages on your platform.
As we have been able to verify after weeks of testing, Netflix seems to have started with the blocking of account sharing. Although it seems that at the moment it has not yet been extended to all users in the countrythere are already accounts that are being affected by the new Netflix system to block shared accounts.
Netflix warnings are already reaching users
“This TV is not connected to the primary location for this account.” The message that we show below is the one that has appeared to us when entering Netflix on a Smart TV and with the main location set to another home. As you can see, Netflix detects that you are accessing from a foreign location, and therefore suggest us to create an account in order to continue with the service.
Message that appears on the TV after accessing from a location other than the main one.
However, the message also offers us the possibility of managing the main location and even marking the ‘I’m traveling’ option. The first one, ‘Manage main location’, will help us establish the main network location of that same television, while the ‘I’m traveling’ option allows us to get an additional 14 days to be able to continue accessing the platform. In this sense, a code will be sent to the main email or telephone number that the owner of the account must share with the user so that they can continue accessing Netflix.

If we select ‘I’m traveling’ we opt for an additional 14 days of streaming.
As you can see, through this code system it is possible to lengthen the access to the platform without too many problems. However, it is very possible that in a while we will not even have this option and it will be relegated exclusively to mobile devices, since the idea of Netflix is that each household has its own account at home.
Netflix makes use of both IP detection and account activity to obtain information about where and how the service is accessed. The TV will be the cornerstone of the Netflix system, since it will be from the Smart TV where we can establish the main location and from where the platform will not be accessible if we are using a television that is not in the same main location. The only option we have in this regard is to add an extra profile, which has a cost of 5.99 euros per month on top of the subscription price.
The display of this message seems to be coming gradually, since there are still users who can access the service without problems and without any type of message appearing. It will be necessary to be attentive to the next weeks to find out how this new system is expanding.
In Genbeta | After years with Netflix in 4K, I have seen one of their movies in 1080p and now what they charge for the Standard plan seems more serious to me
