Almost from the very beginning of the various video streaming platforms, sharing accounts and, therefore, subscription fees, became commonplace. But the people behind these online services realized that they were losing money.
That is precisely why, starting with Netflix, some of these companies began to block this type of movement so that we could not share our subscriptions. That is, at least for free, since this is something that can be done today but paying a supplement for having shared accounts.
For some time now, the video streaming company from the big N, made this decision. We are talking about the possibility of adding users to our account to share it on the Netflix platform, but paying an extra fee. At this point, we must take into consideration that these additional users have their own access password to the platform, but payment is made by the original subscriber.
Well, this is a movement that is already beginning to be seen in another of the great references of this multimedia sector, Disney+. This company has already begun to restrict shared accounts for some time, just as it happened at the time with the aforementioned Netflix. We are telling you all this because now it is starting to charge the supplement that we have mentioned for add additional users to our subscription.
At the moment this is something that has not reached our country, but it is starting to be tested in other regions such as Canada, Sweden or New Zealand. Now we can tell you that the costs of adding a new user to our Disney+ account vary depending on the country. It can range from $6.67 in Italy to $3.58 in Hong Kong.
The average price of the additional user in the tests currently being carried out in different countries is around 5.70 dollars, which is about 5.15 euros. This cost will give us an idea of the price it will have when it arrives in our country.
Netflix or Disney+, which will be more expensive when sharing
Taking into account all this that we have told you, perhaps some of you are wondering what video streaming platform will charge us more for sharing an account we are subscribed to, Netflix or Disney+Well, for some time now, the Big N’s proposal charges a total of 5.99 euros for each additional user that we add to our subscription.
This is something that we can do right now with the Standard or Premium accounts of the platform. Therefore, all this means that if the price trend continues on Disney+, when it arrives in Spain, perhaps adding an additional user to our account will be a little cheaper. But the difference will be minimal, all things considered.
In fact, this is a modality that will probably spread to most, if not all, of the current streaming platforms. They have seen first-hand that sharing accounts for free is not profitable for them. Hence these supplements that we will have to pay around 5 or 6 euros.
