Some Netflix users continue to pay for their subscription through the App Store payment system, although the streaming service’s iOS app no longer supports the ability to subscribe to the service since late 2018. This flexibility will soon take END.
There was a time when it was possible to subscribe to Netflix directly from the service’s iOS application. The payment was then made like any other purchase in the App Store, all you had to do was authenticate and that was it! Since December 2018, new Netflix customers must purchase their subscription from the platform’s website, with a few exceptions.
Netflix cuts all ties
In any case, it’s over from the iOS application, to the great dismay of Apple which nevertheless laid out the red carpet for Netflix to retain in-app purchases from the App Store. And for good reason, they allow the Apple firm to collect a juicy commission of between 15 and 30% of the transaction amount.

However, there are a few who continue to pay the subscription amount to Netflix via the App Store, in fact all those who subscribed to the streaming service before the cessation of in-app purchases. And from which Apple still gets a little something… but not for long. Netflix has updated the support sheet for billing through Apple to add: “ Some members billed through Apple in certain countries may be asked to enter a new payment method so they can continue their subscription “.
According to the site The Streamable, the platform has started to inform subscribers still paying their donation via the App Store that they will have to change their payment method. This time, it is indeed the epilogue of a relationship which ended in trouble between Apple and Netflix – the latter having even snubbed the Vision Pro.
