Among the many music streaming platforms that we can use at the moment, Spotify is perhaps the most popular. There are several reasons for all this, starting with the wide availability of content, or the free modality available.
There are many millions of subscribers that this streaming platform has to its credit. But it is important to take into account that a good part of them make use of the Free account, despite the limitations it presents. Here we are going to meet a fair amount of advertising and we will not have at our disposal certain functions that can be used by paying subscribers.
However, at the same time we have a multitude of parameters available in both modes and access to practically all of the content available on Spotify. As you can imagine, it is important to correctly configure the application as such in order to enjoy all our favorite music in the best way depending on our tastes or needs.
With everything and with this there are certain functionalities that perhaps at first we think that they are going to be of help to us, but that in the end are the opposite. Along these same lines, we want to focus on a feature that is deactivated by default but that many of us put into operation, which in the long run ends up being an error. Specifically, we are referring to a parameter that we find in the Spotify client for Windows or Android.
This is the feature called Normalize the volume, which for those of you who don’t know, is basically responsible for equalizing the volume of all the musical themes that we reproduce here. But over time, many users of the streaming platform have realized that this is a function that in the end causes more headaches than solutions.
Why disable volume normalization on Spotify
Although a priori this functionality seems very useful since this way we avoid shocks when listen to songs recorded at different levels, we can find important problems. This is something that is especially evident among paid users of the Spotify platform.
We only have to click on our user photo to access the client configuration. In the audio quality section we find the function that we are discussing in these lines. Well, one of the problems if we activate it, will negatively affect the premium users. Specifically those who have established the maximum quality to listen to their musical themes. The reason for this is that this feature can limit the dynamic range of the music we listen to here, and therefore reduce its quality.
At the same time there are some tracks that by default need to be played at a higher volume than usual. But with this feature we are limiting all of that. This means that the platform itself recommends not using this volume normalization function. So we can listen to each of the songs that we load, at their original level.
With all this we managed to improve the user experience of the music platform. All despite the fact that sometimes we are shocked due to the high volume of some songs.
