Interesting information about Apple’s upcoming HomePod with a display has been leaked again
There have been rumors for a long time that Apple is working on a new HomePod model, one that would integrate a screen fully functional where information could be displayed. The display on the current HomePod and HomePod mini is simply there to display notifications; it’s not a display like we have on many other smart speakers.
However, this could change very soon, and it makes a lot of sense. Most of the HomePod’s features could benefit from including a screenwhich could display photos, your smart home controls, or the music player that’s playing. It could also take advantage of the full potential of Apple Intelligence.
We now know that this device is closer thanks to an identifier that has found MacRumors. Each Apple device has a unique identifier and has been found a completely new one called “HomeAccessory17,1”. A name similar to the HomePod’s “AudioAccessory” identifier.
What we expect from Apple’s HomePod with display
The identifier of this new device offers us more information than it may seem. On the one hand, Apple calls it a “HomeAccessory,” rather than an “AudioAccessory” like it does with the HomePod.. Which means this could be a new category of device, a mix between a HomePod and an Apple TV.
But there is more. The number next to the device identifiers refers to the processor they will use. And the number 17.1 refers to the future A18 chip that will also be used by all iPhone 16s. This tells us that Apple plans to launch this device in the not too distant future, and that it will also will be fully compatible with Apple Intelligence. Which makes a lot of sense, since current HomePods won’t be compatible with Apple’s AI.
Apple Intelligence is just Compatible with iPhone 15 Pro and devices with an M1 chip or later due to the power it requires. Of course, it will be compatible with the iPhone 16 that will use the new A18 chip, which we will also see in this new Apple home accessory.
Taking into account Apple Intelligence features such as creating memories in the Photos app or improving Siri, It makes a lot of sense that a theoretical HomePod with a screen could benefit from them.. Additionally, the device is expected to support FaceTime and Messages, so it can be used for easy communication.
The code discovered by MacRumors It also indicates that this “home accessory” will run a software variant of tvOSvery similar to the one used by the HomePod. We can therefore expect it to include video apps such as Apple TV, Netflix or Prime Video. There are also references to two unreleased Apple TV models with the identifiers AppleTV14,4 and AppleTV14,5, which could be launched this year.
Taking all this data into account, Apple is likely to introduce this device at the end of this year or in early 2025.We have been talking about it for years, so its development should be almost ready.
