Risk of misuse of government data and information
China has accused the US of spreading propaganda regarding Tiktok. In Parliament, Dowden told MPs on Thursday that there was a risk of misuse of government data and information because of this app. It is our duty to protect sensitive information related to the security of the country. So today we are restricting this app to official devices. The use of other data extraction apps will also be reviewed.
Cyber security experts gave advice
He said that our cyber security experts had given the prudent advice of banning the TikTok app on government equipment. The Cabinet Office ministry said government equipment contains sensitive data. The Tiktok app first asks for data access permission on the device and then collects it, the possibility of transfer of this data to anyone cannot be ruled out.
