There are many devices that allow us to increase the performance of our PC, for example by adding a dedicated component that is not normally included in order to perform tasks that require a larger workload, such as external graphics. eGPUs do not represent a very large market, since they are not the first choice of most people, but it seems that Huawei has seen an opportunity in this sector, and the company has begun to develop cases for external graphics.
There are a lot of companies trying to offer very different products to get the biggest market share possible, and Huawei is a brand that has a lot of solutions for all kinds of users. Now they want to embark on a new adventure with the development of external graphics, which seek to offer users the ability to improve the performance offered by their devices.
An external graphics case with a twist
When we talk about external graphics It is normal that we always think of an extremely large case, which allows us to house some model that has a fairly considerable size, but the solution that Huawei has presented stands out for being practically similar to a charger, with dimensions of 139x119x41 mm. Huawei has presented the Hi GT Cube as a perfect eGPU to save space but without losing performance, since it incorporates a Radeon RX 7600M XT.
The connectivity is quite limited, as it only offers a total of 3 ports, one via USB4, which according to the brand, is compatible with Thunderbolt, a DisplayPort 1.4, and an HDMI 2.1, making it quite limited. It does not include any other ports, and we find this strange considering that many external graphics cards usually include OCuLink as it is the most reliable connection for these cases.
It should be noted that it not only serves as an external graphics card, but also has the advantage of acting as a 100 W charger, although considering that it has a charging capacity of 240 W we do not know if the GPU’s performance can be fully utilized while charging a device such as a laptop.
The price may be quite high for what it offers.
One of the most peculiar details that we see about the Hi GT Cube is that the price is quite high considering the few specifications it offers, since as we have indicated it only includes a USB4 port that supposedly works with Thunderbolt. This product has a sales price of around €500, which seems to be excessive considering that we are talking about a mobile version of the Radeon RX 7600 XTwhich makes us wonder if it is really a product worth buying.
External graphics card enclosures are usually quite expensive, and this one may be among the cheapest you can get, but even so, it is a product that does not even include the specific connector for it, although it does have Thunderbolt, so we do not know what move Huawei really wants to make with this launch.
