If you are one of those users who has been waiting for months for NVIDIA to lower the price of its graphics cards, surely you are fed up with promises and vague forecasts. They tell us that the day will come soon when costs are normalized, but no matter how much time passes they don’t.
And the worst thing is that this fact does not matter at all to the brands that take advantage of the situation. As we told you a few weeks ago, we are paying for the semiconductor crisis, since the big companies are making record incomes.
A few days ago, at an investor meeting, NVIDIA Executive Vice President Jeff Fisher revealed that people are spending about $300 more to upgrade their graphics card, which seemed like good news to him.
“The GPU market is offering more value than everFisher said.According to our data, customers are spending $300 more than they paid for their previous graphics card“.
Although what Fisher meant was that gamers opt for higher models when buying a new GPU -going from a GTX 1060 to an RTX 3070, for example-that comment could be considered distasteful in the current climate.
We’ve started to see graphics card prices drop after several years of inflated prices due to stock shortages, chip shortages, the pandemic, and the cryptocurrency boom (basically, the apocalypse).
But with everything, many graphics cards are still sold for a much higher price than the original, we are talking about averages of 200 euros more. When an RTX 3060 Ti should be sold at 399 euros, it continues to be sold for up to €699 in many of the Spanish reference stores.
And although Fisher does not refer to this cost overrun specifically, he does seem to say that the company is happy that gamers have increased their budget, since right now this is the only way to buy a graphics card: choosing a high-end and paying an overprice.
