New attack that steals bank card data

This new malware has been given the name of R3NIN. Its mission is to track bank cards and steal data when someone makes a payment on a web page. This threat has been discovered by cybersecurity analyst Cybel. He assures that it is a type of malware in evolution and that it puts online purchases at risk.

But how exactly does it work? The attacker needs hack a web page and, once it has gained control, it inserts an encrypted malicious script into the web server. This script is designed to be activated once a user enters that previously attacked website. It could also take advantage of iFrame to launch a fake pop-up window that asks for additional information that a trusted website won’t ask for.

What you are looking for with this trick is for the victim to expose more personal information that they are going to collect and later exploit. This malware is capable of extracting data from bank cards through the browser, analyzing them and generating statistics.

within the data you can steal of the cards we can mention the expiration date, name to which the card is registered, address, city, country, PIN code, e-mail or telephone. With all this that they manage to steal, they can use the card fraudulently and defraud other websites.

What to do to avoid theft when paying online

So, what can we do to avoid being victims of attacks of this type when paying online? We are going to give you a series of tips that can come in handy not only to protect yourself from R3NIN, but also from any similar type of attack that can steal your bank details online.

Something fundamental is not make mistakes. When you go to make a payment on the Internet, always make sure that you are using an official and secure website or application. Be careful not to enter through links that you receive by mail, WhatsApp or Facebook. It is important to always go directly to the official website and make payments there. You should always check if a website is safe to buy.

you should also have the device protected. It does not matter if you are going to use a computer or mobile to buy online, since in both cases you must install a good antivirus. This will help you spot any issues that may arise. You will be able to eliminate viruses that you download by mistake and detect many attacks.

Likewise, it is essential keep everything updated. Hackers sometimes take advantage of vulnerabilities. Having everything well updated is going to be essential to avoid having problems. That will help you correct bugs and make everything work correctly and pay safely.

Therefore, as you can see, it is important to take certain measures to pay or buy online. The objective is to never compromise our personal data and that they can use it against us in the future.
