The Apple AirTag they were launched on the market with the category of being novelty devices, although this was entirely true. And, it is that, before the Apple AirTag, you could already find equipment with the same proposal and functionality. Despite the fact that these accessories were already on the market, it was not until the arrival of the AirTag that the rest of the manufacturers have begun to launch their own versions.

Over the last few weeks we have seen different companies present their proposals for devices to be able to find Lost objects. All these proposals are interesting, but they have a point against them and it is precisely what OPPO wants to solve with its new proposal that has been presented within the framework of the MWC.

OPPO has its own AirTag and the main novelty is that they do not use a battery. Yes, you read it right. It will not be necessary to change the battery of these devices when it runs out because they do not have this element. To achieve this, OPPO has had to develop innovative technology in this field.

After the development of this technology aimed at making it easier for users to find their lost objects, it has been named Zero-Power. The name is quite explanatory and leaves no room for any doubt. These labels by OPPO collect radio signals from the environment from any type of source.

OPPO’s AirTags could leave Apple’s in a bad place

When talking about any type of source, we mean that, for example, Zero-Power tags are capable of collecting radio signals from television antennas, FM radio, mobile service stations and WiFi access points as their power sources. They collect these waves to be able to integrate energy that they will later use.

This energy collected from the waves is not only used to power OPPO tags, it is also used to transmit the position in which it is located and, therefore, fulfill its function as a positioning beacon of a device. Unfortunately, this tag sits as a prototype at the moment.

We will have to wait to see how this technology progresses and, above all, if Apple responds to what OPPO has done with its own version. At the moment, the only thing that can be done is wait to see what happens in the future and if this prototype goes on the market so that all users can use it.
