Subscriptions have reached electric cars and this is a problem that will affect us all. In the last few hours, a car has been presented that comes from Mercedes-Benz and that has a feature that surely does not convince users: to have more power you will have to pay a subscription.
Yes, you read it right. Subscription models don’t just apply to streaming platforms. Now it seems that the cars they will also integrate these subscription systems into their interiors, or at least into electric vehicles that have sufficiently advanced intelligence to make this possible.
How does this Mercedes-Benz subscription work? The truth is that its operation is identical to that of the other subscription models, you pay and this gives you access to the service which, in this specific case, is more power in the vehicle. This power means that the car it will be faster than other vehicles of the same model without this subscription.
As advertised by Mercedes-Benz this feature does not seem like a subscription, but reading carefully about this functionality makes it clear that it is a subscription. In fact, only when making the payment is it already shown that this monetary outlay has the feature active for a specified period of time.
Subscriptions to increase power: this is the Mercedes-Benz plan
This new feature is called Dynamic Drive and will be integrated into the electric car so that users can enjoy this new acceleration model. In fact, just by pressing it, the vehicle will proceed to increase its power, always taking into account the engine that integrates the car.
The data provided by Mercedes-Benz indicates specifically how this mode will affect your electric cars. In the case of the Mercedes-EQ EQE 350 4MATIC, This will go from 288 to 349 horses, which will allow it to accelerate from 0 to 100 in just 5.1 seconds. which reduces this time by 0.9 seconds compared to the 6 seconds it takes without this mode.
The price of this subscription is not cheap, it is $1,200 per year and that, for the moment, is not available in euros. This means it’s $100 a month for more power in Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles.
It has not taken too long for criticism of the company to begin to rain down for this movement. Of course, we will have to wait to see if someone pays to have more power in their electric car and, we hope, that this type of subscription does not become a standard.
