Unlike the app Camera Remote Apple’s Pencilera app, designed for the iPhone and Apple Watch, fills the void by offering remote shutter capabilities specifically for the iPad. Compatible with the Apple Pencil 2 and the Apple Pencil Pro, which launched alongside the iPad Pro M4, the app lets you take photos with a double tap, or a squeeze of the stylus if it’s a Pencil Pro.

I decided that it would be fitting for a simple iPad app to be built on an iPad. I took on the challenge of developing the entire app on the iPad, from start to finish; I wanted to push the iPad to its limits and see what it would be like. Keep in mind that this app was built on a 2020 iPad Air with an A14 chip, not an M1, M2, or M4 iPad. I think Pencilera turned out amazing, and anyone who uses it will enjoy the app. I put a lot of love and care into designing the little elements of the app, and I hope people will notice and appreciate them. I’ve had the opportunity to demo the app over the last couple of months, and almost everyone has been impressed, with some even thinking it was a native feature of Apple’s Apple Pencil. And that’s when you know you’ve created a great app.
