This is not something new in the market and, in fact, it has been used for many years, however, it seems that the company founded by Bill Gates does not want to continue with the same game, especially after the purchase of Activisionthus changing its exclusive policy, something that the rest of the companies should do, since, in the end, all users will end up playing with a PC, where generally, exclusive titles from Microsoft and Sony consoles always arrive (Nintendo is another story), although Sony exclusives take a while to do so.
No more Xbox exclusives
During Gamescom last week in Germany, Phil Spencer made several statements about Xbox’s policy change, as they differ greatly from those he made earlier this year regarding the launch of the new Indiana Jones and the Great Circle title. It should be remembered that Microsoft is not an NGO, it is a company that is there to make money and if the way to do so is to forget about exclusives, then so be it.
Phil Spencer said:
They learned from the first 4 games.
They run a business and player numbers on Xbox are higher than ever.
The industry is under pressure and it will be change for all of us. https://t.co/qc2tGZQzSSAugust 21, 2024 • 15:14
The main reason for forgetting the Xbox exclusivesaccording to Spencer, is that it greatly benefits Microsoft, as it allows it to expand the reach of its titles to other ecosystems, whether Nintendo either Sonywhich in turn allows you to generate more income and amortize the investment made.
What I see when I look at it is that our franchise is getting stronger, our Xbox console players this year are higher than ever, so I look at it and say, our player numbers are increasing for the console platform, our franchise is as strong as it’s ever been… and we run a great business.
While it is true that Microsoft follows the same policy as Sony, releasing its exclusives a while later, the Redmond-based company wants to reduce that time gap so that it is not necessary to wait several years. In fact, returning again to talk about Indiana Jones and the Great Circlea title that will hit the market on December 9 for Xbox and PC by Bethesda, PlayStation users will not have to wait long, since, according to Spencer, its launch for Sony’s gaming ecosystem is scheduled for early 2025.
Although Microsoft is abandoning the game of exclusivity in the world of video games, it is not stupid and obviously will not release its studios’ titles for both PC and Xbox at the same time, as it could affect sales of its console, sales which in Europe have never been very good, let’s say.
The recent price increase of the Game Pass subscription from Microsoft, has not sat very well with users either, however, it continues to be one of the best options currently available on the market to play practically any game that is released from day one (although with the most expensive subscription).
