Countries like South Korea or Japan are very technologically advanced when compared to Europe or North America and part of this comes thanks to the large cast of robots that they have scattered throughout many places such as airports, restaurants, hotels and also patrolling government buildings.
However, as they point out from the Japan Today publication, right now three R2-D2-style security guards have been released patrolling the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building and with integrated cameras and sensors that amaze passers-by.
These three robots are SQ-2 models produced by Seqsense in Tokyo and as we said they are equipped with multiple cameras that can transmit real-time video directly to human security personnel who are centrally located.
What makes these robots special is that they have rotating cameras and their heads rotate constantly making 3D maps and monitoring the environment.
These robots also have artificial intelligence capabilities capable of detecting people and other obstacles to avoid collisions, they even have a tool that allows passers-by to communicate with human security guards who are in the central.
These robots, when their batteries run out, they will automatically search for and connect to an enabled charging portduring which time they will continue to monitor everything that happens around them with their cameras.
The reason for the existence of these robots is that there is a significant shortage of security personnel in Japan, so in the end the government is betting on the technology.
