Repair bonus: money saved, affected devices

In France, the repair bonus will reduce your bills when you go to have an electronic device (smartphone, PC, tablet, electric bicycle, TV, etc.) repaired by a professional certified by the QualiRépar label. Here is everything you need to know about this financial assistance, which aims to promote eco-responsible actions.

After the repairability index – which recently extended to more products -, it’s the turn of the repair bonus to be implemented. This is a measure of the French State aimed at encouraging eco-responsible practices around electronic devices. In concrete terms, you will benefit from a small financial aid of up to 45 euros maximum.

In effect, from December 15, 2022 in France, by having your smartphone or laptop repaired by a specialist, your bill can be reduced thanks to this repair bonus. This financial boost is possible thanks to a fund of 410 million euros made available until 2027. This fund is fed by the manufacturers themselves who pay part of their income generated by sales. In addition, it is the organizations Ecosystem and Ecologic, specialized in recycling, which manage this money.

” About thirty categories of products that are no longer under warranty will benefit from this repair bonus.“, explains Nathalie Yserd, the general manager of Ecosystem atFrance info.

How to take advantage of the repair bonus in France?

Visit the ecosystem.eco or label-qualirepar.fr websites to find a repairer participating in this scheme. It should be noted that a “QualiRépar” label will be awarded, subject to conditions, to repair professionals. On the other hand, for the moment, the label in question has only been awarded to 500 specialists. In the course of 2023, 1,500 professionals will be affected.

As you will have understood, at first, few people should really succeed in taking advantage of the repair bonus in France. Let’s hope, however, that the number of professionals certified by the QualiRépar label increases considerably in order to really be able to concern a large part of consumers.

If you contact a QualiRépar certified repairer, you will immediately benefit from the repair bonus. Depending on the device to be retyped, you will therefore have a deduction of 10 to 45 euros on your bill. The professional is reimbursed for the difference by Ecosystem or Ecologic.

Important : only electronic devices that are no longer under warranty are eligible for the repair bonus.

Which devices are affected by the repair bonus?

A large number of products are affected by the repair bonus. From December 15, this financial aid will already apply to repairs of smartphones, laptops, tablets, TVs, video projectors, game consoles, electric bicycles, electric scooters, digital cameras, robot vacuum cleaners or even drones.

A tour of the QualiRepar label site allows you to consult the list of “products eligible for the repair fund“. Some of the products mentioned here will only be eligible from 2023 or 2024. A footnote specifies, moreover, that the list is “likely to evolve“.

With this ecological bonus, France hopes to see the number of electronic devices repaired each year increase by 20%. It would thus increase from 10 to 12 million by 2027. At present, 90% of breakdowns are not repaired. However, to limit everyone’s environmental footprint, it is recommended to keep your devices as long as possible instead of replacing them at the slightest malfunction.
