The headline is sincere. If there is something that the Xenoblade team (or Nintendo itself in general, if you want to see it) has been able to do well, it is to position the Switch with this type of unique experience. It is enough to look back a few years and remember the stir caused by the first title of the franchise and that started the Operation Rainfall.
Anyway. That’s another story and thanks to her, we can now play one of the best titles that have been released on the Switch so far this year. Xexnoblade Chronicles 3 has arrived and has a lot of hours of gameplayand better yet, it maintains the formula that we fell in love with in past installments and adds some improvements.
The importance of knowing both sides of the story
In the first instance, we will find ourselves in the middle of a war. As usual, we will face some necessary cliches that they are going to put this story on track to something bigger.
On this occasion, we will take the role of Noah. Our character is in charge of making sure that the souls in battle can be reborn later. His work makes him known as a Eminentand next to Minewill be the protagonists of this story of more than 50 hours.
But wait, how come their paths cross? That’s probably a spoiler (and a big one), but what we can tell you is that there’s a big lesson in know both sides of a coin. In the story of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, we are faced with a conflict between two nations: Kevins and Anguswhere in addition to fighting for territories and other things, it is also a constant battle for survival, since the inhabitants of Aionios they have a clock that, when it stops (or goes out, because it is a flame itself), they die.
A cruel fate awaits them. Image: Nintendo
The only way to stay alive is to eliminate soldiers from the opposing nation, a cruel fate that hides many secrets. This is how Noah and Mio, both characters from a different side, will discover that there is something very dark happening in their world… An object in particular has put them on the same path, and now, they must work together to find the answers they need. they need.
A memorable story, albeit with clichés
You’re probably tired of that tired formula of “the character who is nobody and ends up being the hope of the universe”, and, to a certain extent, I understand you. It is something that we see in the titles of this genre as a constant, but fortunately, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has other sections to hold on to so as not to be one more of the bunch, even, I dare to say that the care of its other aspects makes this type of situation overlooked.
For example, one of the things that has caught my attention is how little by little they have been creating this universe of “separate stories” that take place in the same place, only in different generations or times, if you want to see it that way. In short, you don’t need to play the previous titles to understand this one, but there are things that would make more sense if you did it as someone who has followed the series during its first installment.
That’s how it started. Image: Nintendo/Parenthesis
On the other hand, our protagonists must reach a certain place that can mean their hope, and the route of the scenarios continues to be imposing and impressive, to such an extent that you will always find what to do; secondary missions can unlock things from the main story, and it is something that is appreciated, because you will not feel like an errand boy in a world that “is only pretty and that’s it”.
The new, complicated and improved combat system
They say you shouldn’t fix what ain’t broke, but there’s no written rule for add things that can make what is already written even better. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 understood everything and compared to its predecessor, it now presents us with a complete organized chaos of up to seven characters in combat. Yes, SEVEN. The seventh member of your team is called “Hero”, and you can have the help of only one of this type during the fights.
Although it is not possible to control them all at the same time (rather, let’s say that they will be like your support based on automated commands), it does completely change the dynamics of the fights, especially with the bosses, since you will be able to inflict different statuses that They will give you an advantage in the fight.
Then you will understand more about the importance of chains. Image: Nintendo/Parenthesis
For example, some of your attacks can lift the enemy, make them lose balance and fall off completely to deal more damage or even get your team to raise some of their stats momentarily. Being aware of this team mechanic is crucial.
Of course, you can do aswitch” between characters, which is also one of the bases that you must master to survive in this wild world. It sounds complicated at first, but there are tutorials that explain all this very well so that you don’t complain on Twitter because you don’t understand anything.
To this, we add the Gems, Equipment, Classes, Ouroboros fusion and more, basic for combat. The first ones are basically used to enhance combat, healing or analysis statistics, which will help you, for example, to know the weaknesses of the enemies. These can be shared with more than one character on your team, they are very useful and can be obtained from side quests.

The Team is not something new or something you do not know. It can be bought, it increases your character’s attack or defense and other things, nothing you’re not used to in this genre; on the other hand, the game’s Classes define the attitude of the characters in the battle (being the tank and distractor, the one that heals, the one that hits head-on, etc.); the Ouroboros link it’s something that happens during battle and will merge two of your characters into one more powerful being, but we invite you to explore it for yourself.
The emotional journey that awaits you is from start to finish
In the end, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a very complete product. It closes (?) a good cycle that Nintendo has been with this franchise and also adds mechanics that, although it is not felt that they were necessary, are appreciated. Regarding their failures, they are kept to a minimum, being for me the most notable their already expected clichés, but not for that they tell us the usual story. There are good twists, so you let yourself be surprised.
The recommendation for these types of games remains the same: grab them with time, grab them when you have about five or six hours free and don’t stop, because it’s an adventure that goes on for a long time, yes, occasionally you can get distracted by the secondary missions that, although repetitive, will give you one or another reward that will be useful during your adventure.
The character design, the good and unforgettable music, the huge landscapes and what has made the world of Tetsuya Takahashi and Monolith Software are waiting for youwith a very attractive invitation to get lost once again in this universe called Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
