Some experts have repeatedly warned about how there will be many jobs that will disappear due to the future presence of robots in the streets. Today we are talking about robotic floor cleaners and robotic vacuum cleaners, but in a few years the situation could change a lot. Delivery services seem to be one of the profession types that would be hit hard. For now, one of the best-known pizzerias has already introduced a pilot program with robots that deliver their food. The results do not seem to be negative at all and we read that there are also other companies, such as DIA supermarkets, that are using the same technology.
The time of the change?
They say from Domino’s Pizza that, for now, this is a test program and that they have not carried out any type of reduction of personnel in the pizzerias where the robots are already available. Although it has not been specified, the control of these robots requires supervision and it is possible that there are professionals from the cast who are collaborating on it. In addition, the distribution with robots, for the moment, is optional. Domino’s Pizza customers in Móstoles have the option to check the box “Do you want your order to be delivered to you by DomiRob?” to request that one of the robots of the staff be in charge of delivering the requested food.
@dominospizza_es Domino’s Alcobendas has a very special new delivery option 🤖🤖🤖 Our new robots can be in charge of taking the orders to your homes 😎 More sustainable, electric, full innovation… what do you think of this pilot project?

But it is obvious that the threat posed by having these robots on the streets is enormous. For many people it is visualized as the beginning of the end. The day when classic pizza delivery boys are out of a job could be near If this type of robots end up establishing just as, by the looks of it, it will end up happening sooner or later.
In addition, what Domino’s has done has been to jump into the pool with a wide range of robots of different capacities so that deliveries can be made regardless of their volume. Thus, they have the DomiRob for the delivery of pizzas and small orders, the MegaloDom for larger orders, the DomiBoost or the DominosD2. For this reason, it seems that the project in which the pizza chain has invested is not just a curiosity or a way to attract attention.

@whoissaru Our workforce has not been affected by the arrival of our DomiRobs. In addition, we are always looking for people who want to work with us and they can do it through the employment channel.

The reactions of the people
Of course, we are still not used to seeing motorized robots going down the street moving like little cars, waiting at traffic lights, respecting the traffic and moving at high speed so that the food arrives hot to the customers. Thus, people are quite impressed when you pass them on the street. Kids chase Domino’s robots to look at their faces and be surprised because…they have eyes! Adults, especially those who have ordered a pizza, go out in time to see the robot heading home.
That is actually the best way to enjoy the work that the robot does. You just have to place an order in time and follow it street by street until it reaches your portal. Of course, get ready to run, because there are times when the robot can start a speed of 7 kilometers per hour and you won’t be able to keep walking him precisely. The robot, of course, will not know that you are following it, nor will it consider that its client may be closer than it imagines.
There are also those who do not augur a good future in view of crime or problems that the robot may encounter on its way. In reality, if we look at social networks, the most common comments are those that predict that there will be those who will steal the robot, dismantle it and end up keeping both the equipment and the food inside. But, at least for now, no such incidents have been made public, and it appears that the robots are reaching their destination safely, even as they roam the streets after nightfall.
House things.

@DominosPizza_ES Hope they find out what the junkyard pays for the batteries. Lithium, cobalt… very rich.

It is possible that one of the reasons why robots are being respected so much is because They are equipped with an eight-chamber system that not only help them reach their destination safely, but also serve as a control method. This is what allows these robots to detect movement around them and thus avoid any type of accident. For example, when they approach a garage they will be able to tell if a car is going to leave, at which point they will stop until they are sure that they have the possibility of moving forward without risk.
However, although the use of the robot is curious and you may like that your pizza is brought to you by one, you have to take into account a fact that is not so positive: robots only They are ready to deliver the pizza to the portal. This means that you will have to go down yourself to pick it up. There is talk about the incorporation of some benefit so that customers compensate for this effort, but at the moment it does not seem that it has been implemented. Of course, you will not have to go down in advance. The robot sends an SMS to the client’s mobile at the time it has to go down. Then the user has to close the bag carried by the robot using their phone as well, without physically touching anything.
What do you think of the presence of these robots in the streets? Will they end up replacing the pizza delivery guys or will they end up being victims of criminals sooner or later?
