Samsung announced its new generation of foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold6 and the Galaxy Z Flip6, last July, but everything seems to indicate that this year the South Korean giant will not only have two foldable phones, but three phones with this format.
The third model will be an ultra-thin version of the Z Fold6which according to rumors and leaks will be called the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim, and the company is expected to present it next September. Among its changes will be an even thinner body on the phone, something very important for a foldable, a better camera for selfies, more titanium and, most likely, a higher price than the Z Fold6.
Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim: ultra-thin, better cameras and titanium
The great benefit of foldable phones is that they can offer two experiences in a single device: a smaller screen and a larger screen. In the case of “book” type foldables, such as the Galaxy Z Fold, this means being able to have a phone with a traditional screen that transforms into a kind of tablet of almost 8 inches.
However, this also means that these phones are logically much thicker than a traditional smartphone. The Galaxy Z Fold6 is 12.1 mm thick when folded and 5.6 mm thick when open. Samsung wants to reduce this thickness even further with the new Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim model, which according to leaks It will be only 10mm thick when folded.
The Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim would be 10mm thick, thinner than the 12.1mm of the Galaxy Z Fold6. The company is expected to present it in September
As part of the development to achieve a reduction in the thickness of this ultra-thin mobile, the company would have developed a titanium back cover that would go on the back of the mobile. In this way, Samsung would add more titanium to the body of the device, which It also allows you to reduce your weightDevelopment of this titanium cover has already been completed, according to The Elec, but it is not clear whether the company will use it in the Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim or the next generation of the ultra-thin foldable.
Another important change that would come in the Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim is that it would have a better under-display cameraSamsung’s Z Fold foldables have two front-facing (or selfie) cameras: one on the outer display and one under the inner display. The Z Fold6 has a 4MP sensor under the display, just like the previous two generations of the foldable, but the Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim would have a 5MP sensor, according to information published by Galaxy Club.
Samsung is expected to unveil the new Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim next month. This variant of the company’s foldable phone will be available first in South Korea and China, and for now it is unknown when it will reach the rest of the world, or if Samsung will wait for a next generation of the ultra-thin variant of the Z Fold to bring it to the rest of the world. As for its price, it is estimated that It will go on sale at a price of around $2,100. at the exchange rate, that is, about $200 more expensive than the Galaxy Z Fold6 taking into account its price in dollars (in Spain its price is 2,000 euros).
Other rumors that have surfaced over the past few months mention that Samsung is also working on a cheaper version of the Galaxy Z Fold, but for now the only model that seems likely to see the light of day is the “Slim” model. Hopefully, in 2025 we will see a cheaper alternative that will attract the interest of even more users towards foldable phones.
