Say what you want about AirTags, but there’s no denying that this technology has been invaluable to a large number of customers, whether it’s locating a lost bag, a stolen car, misplaced luggage and even a pet. Such is the case today when a Yorkshire Terrier got lost and found himself alone in the suburbs of Orlando, Florida for an hour before his owner noticed him. Fortunately, she had fitted Rocky’s collar with an AirTag.
New story around AirTags
Orlando’s Fox 35 shared the story of a dog rescue made possible by Apple’s infamous AirTags.
Rocky’s owner, Denise Huertas, was taking out the trash on Oct. 20 in her Orlando neighborhood. She said about an hour later she realized her two-kilo Yorkshire Terrier was missing.
I ran and took my phone because it has an AirTag so when I looked at the location it said it was about 20 minutes away.
Luckily, Rocky was picked up and taken to Orange County Animal Services in time. Thanks to the AirTag, Rocky’s owner knew exactly where to go to pick him up. The dog was not wearing an ID card and did not have a microchip, so veterinary services did not immediately know how to contact its owner. Watch the video :
iPhone users can see the contact details of an AirTag owner when the tracker is set to Lost Mode, but few people are aware of the behavior of AirTags in general. Rocky’s owner also plans to equip him with a microchip, in case he runs away again.
Although Apple doesn’t specifically endorse this use case, tracking pets is a popular way to use AirTags. Accessories for AirTags usually cost less than 10 euros. Remember that these accessories are based on technology Locate from Apple.
