For a few hours, it has been possible to buy the new Model 3 Grande Autonomie Propulsion on the Tesla site. The electric car with the best range/price ratio. Should we fall for this new and exclusive version? We give you some answers, to help you decide, as long as there is stock on this special model.
At the end of last week, Tesla put on sale (in a very special way) a new version of the Tesla Model 3. Its name: Grande Autonomie Propulsion. Its specificity: its autonomy / price ratio, the best ever offered by Tesla in France.
Indeed, at 45,990 euros (or 40,990 euros once the ecological bonus has been deducted), this Tesla Model 3 LR RWD offers 620 km of autonomy on the WLTP cycle. By way of comparison, the “classic” Tesla Model 3 Grande Autonomie (with all-wheel drive) announces 602 km of autonomy for 49,990 euros… without being entitled to the bonus.
How to buy this new Tesla Model 3
But this new Tesla Model 3 is not so new: it had already been on sale temporarily in 2019. What is strange is that it cannot be purchased via the manufacturer’s site. It is indeed necessary to make a phone call to a Tesla center, or to place the order by the chat of the site. The car does not appear in the official configurator.
Since this Monday, May 15, it is however possible to place the order in a simpler way, from the list of vehicles in stock. And it is precisely for this reason that the Tesla Model 3 Grande Autonomie Propulsion cannot be configured: these are vehicles in stock. It is impossible to choose your options.
Attention, limited stock… and limited features
If this morning, there were still black models eligible for the bonus, it is now necessary to be satisfied with the white color. We phoned a Tesla center who told us that there were only more than 15 models in stock nationwide. Will Tesla offer more quantities? It’s hard to say, and we tend to lean towards the negative answer.
Indeed, the future restyled Tesla Model 3 (Highland project) is fast approaching. The latest rumors relayed by Not a Tesla App announce the start of production at the Gigafactory in Shanghai during the month of June 2023. We can therefore imagine that this exclusive version of the Model 3 was designed above all to sell stocks of motors and batteries, to better prepare for the arrival of the future restyled version.
But that’s just a guess. Some think that this new version is precisely the technical basis of the future restyled Model 3. And finally, other sounds announce the end of the Propulsion version in the future, in favor of this “new” model.
It should also be noted that this version includes the partial Premium interior. Which means thatit does not have two features : the front fog lamps and the premium 13-speaker sound system.
So the big question to ask is: should you fall for this Tesla Model 3 Grande Autonomie Propulsion?
Should we buy this new Tesla Model 3?
The answer to this question is very difficult. Since it is impossible to predict the future with Tesla. As you may have read above, the fate of this version is totally unknown.
This electric car might sound like a great deal, and it is. Its autonomy / price / performance ratio is simply unbeatable. But with Tesla, everything can change overnight. If the new restyled Tesla Model 3 is announced in a few weeks, with a similar selling price, the bargain is no longer one.
Unless you absolutely need an electric car in the short term. This proposal of Tesla is then excellent, thanks to an ultra-short delivery time : during June. The facelifted version of the Tesla Model 3 is not expected to ship until the second half of 2023.
Everyone will therefore have an opinion, according to its budget, its constraints, and its needs. Do you want to keep your car as long as possible and don’t count on the residual value on resale? Go for it. Want the latest technology? Wait for the restyled version.
In short, Tesla once again puts us in front of a problem that is difficult to solve, because of its lack of transparency.
