Are too bright screens burning your eyes? There is a solution: screens that reproduce the comfort of paper! TCL presented two new models at IFA.
Modern smartphones compete with the most modern technologies to reproduce colors as faithfully as possible or to be perfectly readable in direct sunlight. But some users would prefer that these state-of-the-art screens stop burning their retinas… This is the clientele that TCL is targeting with its new 40 NXTPAPER range.
Like paper, on a smartphone
These are two mid-range Android smartphones whose particularity is tointegrate a screen “like paper” in color and matte, which makes reading much more comfortable, close to that of a book. TCL has developed a technology consisting of several layers to simulate paper, but which does not sacrifice color reproduction.

The screen of these devices avoids glare and suppresses blue light. For the occasion, the manufacturer even imagined an overlay with an interface inspired by nature and the forest. Several display modes are also available depending on the use of the smartphone.
Refreshing the display, one of the weak points of e-ink screens, is not one here since it is 90 Hz. And TCL has also designed an NXTURBO function which boosts the rendering of images (it aims to be 30% faster).
Technically, the NXTPAPER 40 (4G) features a Helio G88 chip, its screen measures 6.78 inches (1080p), 8 GB of RAM, 33W wired charging. The NXTPAPER 40 5G features a more powerful MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chip, but on the other hand its screen is a little smaller (6.6 inches) and less well defined (720p). It also has 6 GB of RAM and 15W charging.
The first model will be sold for €199, with availability from September in Europe. The 5G version will be priced at €249 with a launch in October.
