The development teams at Snapchat have always focused primarily on the iOS app, where the majority of active users are found on a daily basis. However, things are starting to change, as a major update has just landed for the iPad app. Snapchat has made the iPadOS app work natively, which allows for a much better user experience!
Snapchat works natively on iPad
Snapchat is taking a major step forward by becoming natively compatible with iPadOS. Until now, iPad users had to settle for the iPhone version of Snapchat, which was blown up to fit their tablet’s larger screen. Now, a new version of the app allows full-screen use on iPad without the big, ugly black borders, making for a smoother and more immersive experience.
To go into more detail, when an app runs natively on iPad, it means that it is specifically designed to take full advantage of the iPad’s hardware and software capabilities. Unlike a simple adaptation of an iPhone version, a native iPad app is optimized for the tablet’s larger screen and unique features, such as support for multitouch gestures or multiple windows.
The iPad version of Snapchat maintains the same experience as the one offered on iPhone, but with a larger field of vision, which is its main advantage. This adaptation allows users to capture Snaps with a wider view and to see more friends in certain tabs of the application. For example, when you view your friends’ conversations or stories, you can now see more of them at a glance, which makes using the application more pleasant and intuitive on a larger screen.
Limits to be taken into account
However, despite this progress, Snapchat on iPad is not yet fully optimized for tablets. In the latest update distributed on the App Store, the application still works only in portrait mode, there is still no possibility to use landscape mode, which is nevertheless very appreciated by iPad users.
Snapchat’s availability as a native iPad app is a welcome step for iPadOS users. While the app already offers an enhanced experience thanks to the larger screen, there are still some improvements that need to be made to fully optimize it for the iPad. Future updates are likely to address current shortcomings and perhaps introduce the ability to use the app in landscape mode, which would fully meet the expectations of iPad users.
