Some WhatsApp news are easier to understand than others. For example, we were recently testing message editing, which isn’t much of a science. Other novelties are somewhat more confusing, such as the messages preserved that have been in development for some time and have now begun to appear to some users in their beta.

The preserved WhatsApp messages allow us to save messages from self-destruction in temporary chats, those who have configured messages to be sent automatically after a few days. Technically, they are quite similar to starred messages.

Save important messages from burning

In WhatsApp you can make any chat ephemeral after activating temporary messages, which delete a message after it has passed 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days since it was sent. Messages are removed from the chat without a trace, just vanishing, in contrast to delete for all, which changes them to a message.

There will be exceptions, because WhatsApp is going to let us keep messages to prevent them from disappearing. The function has been in development for almost a year now but it seems that not for much longer, since the application has begun to notify in the chats that The function of keeping temporary messages in chat is now available. Tapping on this text shows us a window indicating how it works.

Preserve

This window confirms what we already knew in a certain way: keeping messages prevents them from disappearing from a chat, any user can mark a message so that it is kept, although if the message is yours, you have the power to choose whether or not to keep it and you will also receive a notification about it. If you don’t want a message from you to be kept, no other participant will be able to mark it as kept.

To keep a message we must do a long tap and tap on the bookmark icon, which will only appear in chats that have automatic deletion active. In a group, administrators have the power to prevent the message retention function from being used or not being used.

By keeping a message, the chat will be maintained even if its expiration period has passed and you will also be able to consult it from the section Preserved messagesin the chat information. according to whatsappthe message hold feature is active in “some countries” so it may still take time to reach everyone.
