Apple has just released the 5E133 update for all its 2023 Airpods models, we will tell you how to install it and the news it includes.
The AirPods 2, AirPods 3, AirPods Pro, AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Max have a new firmware update available to download on all AirPods you can buy this 2023. The new firmware 5E133 is now available after updates 5B58 and 5B59 that were released in November and January respectively. And, as always, it is an update that fixes bugs and improves the user experience.
Apple does not offer much information about the news which are included in AirPods firmware updates, as it is not an update like iOS or iPadOS. However, the company has a support document with information about AirPods updates.

How to update your AirPos to the new firmware version
Updating AirPods isn’t as easy as updating an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, since there’s no update page. Apple ensures that the update happens automatically when your iPhone, iPad or Mac is near the AirPods.
Firmware updates are delivered periodically while your AirPods are charging and within Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
However, there is a way to try to “force” this update. Our recommendation is connect the AirPods to the iPhone as you usually do, enter the Settings and the menu that appears in the upper area and see the firmware version below. Now the normal thing would be to wait, although you can follow these steps to try to install the update on your AirPods as soon as possible:
- Keep AirPods in their charging case.
- Connect the case to the charger using the Lightning cable.
- AirPods must be connected to your iOS device.
- Obviously, your iPhone or iPad must be connected to the internet.
- We don’t know exactly when, but leaving the two devices close for a while, the AirPods will update themselves to the latest version.
- If the devices have 100% battery, it is easier for them to update.
Interestingly, Apple offers you another possibility: go to an Apple Store to update your AirPods. Although it is not something very comfortable, and less if a new update arrives every 2 or 3 months.
If you don’t have an Apple device nearby, you can make an appointment at an Apple Store or with an Apple Authorized Service Provider to update your firmware
Apple has improved the way we access the AirPods settings with a new menu in the iPhone or iPad settings that appears only when they are connected. However, the way to update has not changed and we simply have to wait for them to do it on their own.
